Who We Are Today

Presbyterian history in Elkton began in the
year 1741. The present church was incorporated
in October, 1833 "by an act of the
Synod of Philadelphia at their session in
Columbia, Pennsylvania" and placed in a
new Presbytery called the `'Wilmington
Presbytery." The church has been
served by twenty-two pastors.
The present sanctuary and chapel were
completed in September 1874. The
educational building was added in 1962,
which provides classrooms and a large fellowship
hall with an all electric kitchen.
The sanctuary was air
conditioned in 1987,
the chapel in 1999, the fellowship hall and
classrooms were air-conditioned in 2004.
The new pipe organ was installed in May
1992, changing the appearance of the
chancel to its present design.

Our Government

The church policy is representative with
elders (women and men) elected on session
to lead the church with the Pastor
as Moderator. The church also has an
elected Board of Deacons, who minister to
the spiritual and physical needs of our
members and those in our community. A
Board of Trustees oversees the maintenance
of the facilities and grounds.

Our Education

Sunday school is provided for all children
ages three through senior high at 9:45 a.m.
For adults, two regular classes are heldeach Sunday morning,
with occasional
short-term studies on current topics.
Periodically, there is a class on Christian
parenting.

Music
The church has an excellent music program,
including two choirs and a Praise
band. The Echo Choir, for grades one
through five, practices on Wednesday evening
at 6:00 p.m. The adult choir practices
Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with no choir practice
during the summer. The Praise band
practices Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. A newly
formed handbell choir began practices in the fall of 2006.

Outreach

The members reach out to encompass not
only our own church family; but also the
local and worldwide communities. Joys
and sorrows are shared through an active
prayer chain and weekly prayer
group.

Our outreach includes support of Meeting
Ground (a homeless shelter), an
after school tutoring program, and a
local community (soup) kitchen.
Through events such as Vacation Bible
School, Operation Christmas Child, and
regular mission trips to places like Appalachia,
North Carolina and Mississippi, we
continually stretch the boundaries of
God's word. Benevolence giving enables
us to support God's mission in the world
through our Presbytery, Synod, and General
Assembly.

We have a partnership with
a Presbyterian Church in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.

Regular meetings of a local chapter of
Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous,
Victim Impact (MAAD), Compassionate
Friends, Hospice, Mom's Club,
Girl Scout troops, and a Cub Scout Pack
are held in our educational building.
